Word 2003 will not start in a single column

Word 2003 always starts in 2 columns even though it has been set to a single
column before shutting down. There does not seem to be a 'Default' button
when selecting columns.Does anyone know how to make it start in a single
column?

Locate and open your normal.dot file as described in Method 1 in
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/BlankDocNotBlank.htm , change the
number of columns to one, and save and close your normal.dot file.
