I seem to have lost the ability to spell check my Word doc. That is to say
that even a mis-spelled word is not identified (u-lined) but the word is not
found when doing a spell check. I am attempting an outline (1.0 - 1.1 -
1.1.1 etc.) and placing each step into an individual cell in a table.

1.0
1.1
2.0
2.1
2.2
3.0
I am sure you get the idea. And may I say that to get these steps to
autonumber in a table situation is one of the most frustrating tims I have
ever had using Word. It looks to me that the proper boxes are checkd in
tools-options-spelling-grammar. i.e. check spelling as you type.

any ideas?

thank you

Esessoms, can't help you with the spelling, but I think I can make the
outline numbering easier. Select Column A in an empty table and Format >
Bullets and Numbering > Outline Numbering. Pick a format, then OK.

Numbers (all top level) should appear all down Column A. Then all you have
to do is go up and down the column, clicking Increase Indent to demote an
item or, if necessary, Decrease Indent to promote it. Numbers are added
automatically when you insert rows in or add them to the bottom of the
table.

Select the entire document.

Tools => Language...

There will be a checkbox to not check spelling or grammar. Make sure it is
unchecked.
