Word 2003 always asks to save the document as Normal.

Why does it do that? I am using Windows XP Pro SP2.

It does not matter if I type a long letter or a test file. I have deleted
the file and it creates a new file but still continues.

From what I know there are still problems with the SP2 Update. Unistall it
and wait another month or so for the new update.

Do you mean that it prompts you with the option to save normal.dot on
closing Word? This is normal if you have made any changes that need to be
reflected in the template. If you want to keep the changes, save them. If
not discard them.

Thanks for the replies....

Let me give more details.....

I open word and a blank doc. I type in Test and go to save it to my "my
documents" folder. It will let me save it but I cannot re-open the file.
When I go to close out of Word, it says I need to save the Normal.dot again.
If I do, I still am not able to re-open the test document, and if I discard
the changes I cannot open the document.

Thanks

This misbehavior is usually caused by a malfunctioning add-in. The two most
common culprits are the Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for Word (uninstall)
and the Office Plug-in in Norton AntiVirus (disable).
