word 2002 won't load

I recently had to re-install windows xp, and that went fine, except I now
can't access word. When I click on word in the start menu or try to open a
word file in 'my documents' it just brings up the small 'word' window with
'registered to ....(me)' and the product key/license number. The window just
sits there for hours and word never loads, what can I do?
 
Thank you for prompt reply, very helpful link, don't know yet if problem is
solved, but getting there I think!
