word 2002....recovering an original doucment

Is there a way to restore a document that was modified ? I accidentally saved
a document after modifying it and needed the original doucment as well.
 
Only if you have Word setup to create backups, or you have an independent
backup, or you still have the document open, you could use undo to take you
back to the opening state and then save with a new name.
