Word 2002 Field Codes

I have a couple of user that want to keep the field code option turned on.
When they open a Word template, the field code option turns off.

I thought that maybe it was a corrupt Normal.dot but this proved to be wrong.

Any ideas?

Set it in Tools; Options.
 
I know where to set it. The problem is that the field code check box is turns
it's self off.
 
Tell them to hit alt-F9 to turn it back on.

It's not clear from your post whether this only happens with a certain
template or with all documents. At what point does the checkbox become
unchecked, and what action seems to be the trigger?
 
Sorry,

The users will have the check checked off and they report that it does not
matter what template or form they use. They also report that it's
intermittent.

I did replace their normal.dot, but no luck
