I want about 60 different TOC in a large doc eg kind of like the Bible which
has books with different chapters & verses. How can I do this is Word 2000?

What is the basis of the TOCs? Does each one cover a specific portion of the
text? In that case, you need to use bookmarks. See "A partial table of
contents" in http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/TOCSwitches.htm

Suzanne,

Thanks for the info... it is very good.

I can see how to insert the TOC at a certain point & how control the levels
etc.

How do I limit it's length? eg start at pg 100 & go only to pg 200 while the
doc is 600 pgs long?

Go back and read that section again. You must bookmark the section you want
included, then use a \b switch in the TOC field.

Suzanne,

I have spent a long time trying to do this. I have read over & over both the
help file & your info.

I still can't limit it the length of the index to one chapter? It continues
to include the next chapters?

I am using the \b switch, but I don't see what I must do to keep it from
going to the next chapter?

Sorry I don't see that part ...

Richard

1. Select the chapter you want to create a TOC for (that is, highlight all
the text in that chapter).

2. Insert | Bookmark. The bookmark name must be a single word containing no
spaces, such as Chapter1 or Chapter_1.

3. In your TOC field, insert the \b switch followed by the bookmark name.

If you've done all this and it's still not working, have you updated the TOC
(F9)?
