I have been unable to get my Word 2000 disc to even me
recognized while trying to install with XP Home. Someone
told me I have to get an upgrade approval from Microsoft
to load this with XP. Is this true and if so, how do I
do that?

Thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean by "recognized" ... but I assume that means
that the machine is having trouble reading it to be installed.
Accordingly, my advice is that you take a soft cloth and give the CD a
good clean.

There is no special permission needed to install Word 2000, or any
program for that matter, onto your computer running XP.

Have you got the full edition of office 2000, or the upgrade edition. If you
have the upgrade edition, then you need evidence of a qualifying product, to
install. (ie an earlier version of office etc). It is nothing to do with the
XP operating system.
