Won't Start after upgrading my dual athlons and heatsinks/fans

I upgraded a dual athlon system, 1.2 MP to two 2.4 MP and two Thermaltake
towers- heatsinks/w/fans.
I put it all back together and then plugged it in. I hit the start switch,
all the fans including the two new ones started up for about 5 seconds and
then it all died.

Now it will not start at all. It is like a dead button. If I watch when I
plug the power cord in I can see a couple of lights come on for an instant so
I know juice is getting to the MB.

How do you diagnose something like this. I have a Tyan S2462 MB/ 2GB
ram/RAID 0 w/2-74gb 'raptor' HD's and a back up 80 gb HD/Wildcat VP990 video
card/Audigy Sound Card/ Giga-Ethernet/Firewire card.

It worked fine before the upgrade.

I'll hang up now and take my answer on the air;-)

Sounds like you may need a new PSU - 550W or so...

the little dinky backup supply that makes the lights on the
MB flash is a seperate item from the main circuitry and may
still be working...

pull all PCI/AGP cards, disconnect all drives and try to power up again-try
your
current PSU with another computer or MB.

Thanks for your help.
I unplugged all pci cards and unplugged all drives along with perimeter fans
and it still is a dead button. The box came with a 480 watt PSU and was
working fine before I upgraded the heatsink fans and they just replaced the
two smaller Heatsink fans so I don't think it is a big jump in power
requirements?.

Please advise if you have more ideas as I am stumped and have had no
experience with this kind of problem.

Once you determine that the powersupply is okay you may want to reassemble
with old cpu's and fans to make sure the mainboard is okay. Static
discharge to either the board or new CPU's (or a bum CPU) may be to blame.

Are you sure the new CPUs are good with your Mobo. Some don't accept such a
wide range of CPU speeds and have a big dummy spit.

Best way of check what might be wrong is to inspect your self.

Double check the instruction manual and the work you have done. Make sure
that Fans, Power Supply to Mobo cables are in the correct positions. Unplug
and replug all power cable / connectors. ALso check that you have not
dislodged and connectors to other devices.

If still no joy, undo everything that was done: go back to the single CPU
state and see if it powers up. If so then replace it with only ONE 2.4Ghz
unit at a time.

It could be that you have one dead CPU and one good one.

It's the CPU's I'm thinking of as the new larger load, not the fans.

As another user suggested, put all your old stuff back and see if it comes
back to life.

If it doesn't, I can't think of anything else except bad MB or bad PSU.
