Won't show Video on avi files

I have an emachines T2080 & I Use Windows Xp. I have
never been able to play avi files. It will display the
sound, but it says, "error downloading codec". Can you
please help me. I have tried many things. I haave just
downloaded the newest version of Windows Media Player,
but that didn't correct the problem. Thanks.
 
Hi Christopher,
Some AVI files use additional video codecs such as divx and xvid that
Microsoft do not automatically provide and as such must be installed
separately. Try visiting the divx site at http://www.divx.com/download to
obtain a free version.
