Won't Boot

Hi Travis,

If the entire drivers folder is missing, you would need to reinstall fresh.
Are you certain that it hasn't been renamed or moved? That you are set to
see hidden and system folders?

| I installed the latest driver for my Radeon X1600 PRO from AMD (ATI), and I
| got a BSOD during the driver installation. Now Vista won't boot at all. It
| is telling me that Windows\System32\Drivers\acpi.sys is missing or corrupt.
| I am dual-booting XP and Vista, and I found out that the entire drivers
| folder is missing on Vista. How can I get it back, or will I have to do a
| format re-install?
|
| Thanks.

Please fix your PC clock. You are posting from the future.

It won't go into safe mode. Also tried doing a system restore from the
Vista DVD, and it couldn't find any restore points.

You won't have any restore points in Vista after booting into Windows XP. See
this article for more info:

No restore points are available when you use Windows Vista or Windows Server
2008 in a dual-boot configuration together with an earlier Windows operating
system
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926185

There are a few work-around scenarios mentioned in this article. None of which
simply advise turning off the System Restore feature in Windows XP, which seems
to be a logical thing to do since I use Acronis True Image and ERUNT for
backups. I'm going to try doing that (disable System restore) on my friend's
laptop, which I'm still working on to get to dual-boot properly. The major
problems I'm having with his system is obtaining the proper device drivers (This
is an HP laptop with Vista installed). FWIW, I really don't have much hope for
this experiment.

Now that you mention that, I remember hearing about that. I ended up
reinstalling Vista, but now XP won't boot. See my new post... Thanks.
