Hi,

I have just built a new system and installed my new copy of XP Pro - sp2. My
problem is that the system wont boot unless the system disc is in the drive.

I have changed the BIOS to tell it NOT TO LOOK AT THE CD ROM FIRST and I
have even unpluged the CD ROm but to no avail.

Please Help !!!!

is there only one hard drive in this computer?
Is it setup as primary master on ribbon cable?
Is jumper set as master?
Is Bios set for HD(0) as first boot device?

There are 3 SATA drives in the machine and I have tried to boot with only the
main drive plugged . There are no jumpers, the drives are set up in the bios,
and are correct as per the manufacturers guidlines.

Any other ideas ?

what actually happens when booting from HDD?

do just get blank screen or some kind of error messages?

Was the main hard drive the only HDD installed when you installed XP?
What is on other HDD(s)?
does either other HDD have OS?
what was hardware configuration when installed XP OS?
