After being away for the weekend I've arrived to find my
girlfriend's computer wont boot up properly. Specifically
it starts up fine..makes some noises that I dont recall
hearing before and arrives at a black screen that has a
PCI device listing..then at the bottom of this black
screen is a message

Verifying DMI Pool Data ..................
Boot from CD :

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

I try to hold down F8 during a restart but it doesnt do
anything, I assume its not in the proper sequence yet.
Is this a virus doing something? Did something get fried
during a thunderstorm whilst we were away despite the
surge protector? It seems like its trying to boot from a
CD though there is no CD in the CD drive.

The system is a 1.5 ghz athlon, with 256 MB RAM, XP for
home.
It is relatively new...a couple months old.

What can we do.
Thanks in advance,

Gregory

Respected Sir/Madam

It's all begin when I came in the morning to my office and started my computer. I'm afraid as the system was working perfectly fine when I left my office yesterday evening. It is surprising the system hangs up and displays a message "Verifying DMI Pool Data..................". plus it looks like as if it is trying to boot from the CDROM, while there is no CD in the Drive. I tried to make changes in the BIOS; but it doesn't work

the message it displays looks like

Verifying DMI Pool Data ..................
Boot from CD :

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

I try to hold down F8 during a restart but it doesnt do anything, I assume its not in the proper sequence yet.

Please help me sort out my problem

Thanks in Advance
