Just wondering....... If I have a hard drive crash and thus lose my
operating system (XP) and install a new hard drive
will the OEM recovery CD that came with my computer allow me to install XP
on the new hard drive.

Maybe/ maybe not. Since there are so many variations in the OEM recovery
and restore programs, that's a good question to ask the OEM's tech support.

I think you should ask the people where you bought your System and sold you the
OEM license.
But I believe that if you replaced with exactly the same HD you should be
OK...........as I understand it different versions of OEM XP are tied to
different aspects/parts of the system.

Charles;
Probably, but check with the manufacturer.
Most OEM Windows that come with the computer are tied to the
motherboard so a hard drive replacement is no problem.

Possibly.
Some OEMs (HP, Compaq) put the restore information on a hidden partition on
the hard-drive. The so-called "restore CDs" are merely an avenue to access
the hidden partition. If such is the case, you will have to contact the
manufacturer to obtain a full set of CDs to re-create the hidden partition
(six CDs for HP).
