I occasionally need to convert short WMV movies into MPG format. I'd
appreciate recommendations for a no-frills, simple-to-use freeware
program please.

www.dvdrhelp.com

Good site with tutorials and links for freeware tools.

TMPGEnc at www.tmpgenc.net

You must first rename the wmv extension to asf. TMPGEnc makes superb
mpeg1 video.

Whoops, I didn't know about renaming!
Last week I used TMPGEnc to convert a WMV straight to MPEG2.
And it worked fine. There was something about that method expiring in
30 days, I think.
This was so I could make a SVCD (using VCDEasy) with my CD Writer to
play on a stand-alone DVD.

Just curious, why would you want to convert from WMV to MPG?

The input files for my program MemoriesOnTV are mainly JPGs from
digicam (plus a few MP3s for the soundtrack), but it can also handle
MPG movies. The movies I have are WMV, presumably from my son's
camcorder or mobile 'phone'.

Weil "NERO 5.5" den Brennvorgang bei dieser Art Audio-Endung
unverzüglich abbricht, was bei nicht wieder beschreibbaren
CD-ROM´s Wegwerfen bedeutet.
