WMP10 and DVD's

Have XPhome SP2, WinDVD ver 4.
I can play DVD's with WinDVD no problem.
However I prefer WMP10, but when I use this it comes up with an error
message " Cannot play DVD's, Lower screen resolution etc." I click on
Cancel, the error goes away, the movie loads and plays faultlessly.
I have tried lowering the screen resolution, but this makes no change, still
the initial error message.
I have a P4 1700, 1GB ram and an ATI Radion 9600se which should be and is
more than adequate for this task, so why the error message.
Can anyone assist?
 
Latest version on the ATI website.
Have just upgraded to WinDVD 6 and still the same error message.
The DVD's will play in WMP it is just annoying having this error message.
