I am trying to burn some songs onto a Data Cd using my
Windows Media Player 9. When I press the "Copy" button on
the screen, it almost simultaneously tells me that "there
are no items on CD or device."

Can anyone help me fix this annoying problem. I haven't
had trouble burning songs before?

Try a different make of CD-R.

Dump WMP burning Service COM and use Nero. Better and afze.

If you are trying to save directly from WMP to a formatted data CD, that
function is not natively supported in XP. This requires packet writing
software such as Easy CD Creator's Drag to Disk or Direct CD, www.roxio.com
or Nero's InCD, www.nero.com. Check the respective websites for version
compatibility with XP and drive compatibility.
