whenever i try to play any file in wmp all it will say
is: windows media player is not properly installed and
needs to be reinstalled. when i try to install wmp 9 or
10 at the end of install i get the same message

That would mean that the DRM subsystem feels that it is broken. If
reinstalling WMP over the top of itself does not clear this up, you would
need to contact actual product support.

Note when something don't work, uninstall and reinstall, for ALL programs.
