Dan

I recently downloaded an MPG video file that my computer
did not have the proper codecs for. I downloaded a
Windows MPEG-4 codec, but still could not open the file.
Someone told me to install the Ace Mega codec package,
which allowed me to open and view the file.

Afterwards, I began getting an error with certain video
files where they cannot be moved, copied, deleted, or
played because the computer seems to think they are in
use. I have tried closing every process I can, and still
get the error. Disconnecting from the Internet did not
fix it either. I uninstalled both codecs I installed, and
still get this error. It seems to be almost random which
files this error affects, but I noted that files that
worked fine where they were were suddenly affected by the
error after moving them into another directory. It
affects MPG, MPEG, and AVI file extensions that I have
noted.

The exact error in WMP 9 is "Cannot access the file" and
the error code is 0xC00d11D2. When I try to move, delete,
or copy the file I get an error that says "Cannot delete -
filename-: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not
full or write protected and that the file is not currently
in use."

My computer is a Dell Dimension 4600 with P4 2.4 gHz, 512
megs of DDR400, and Windows XP Home. If anyone has
encountered this or knows a way that I might be able to
restore access to the files, please let me know. Thank
you.

try right clicking on the file name in windows explorer and go to properties
and see if the files are marked as read only or system, if so, uncheck those
properties. See if that helps.
