All of a sudden Windows Mobile Device Center won't start. Sometimes the
splash screen shows up, other times not. But in either case, the software
never opens. I tried the 6.1 Update but still no success.

Have you tried uninstalling the software and reinstall it? Also ensure that
it is done with Administrative Privliedges.

I am having the same problem that WMDC will not start. It was working about 2
months ago with my iPaq and now WMDC does not want to start and I have a
brand new phone to sync with it. I am very frustrated and I have been trying
to solve this problem for about 2 months now. I have done everything that I
could think of.

I have...
-uninstalled
-restarted and then reinstalled
-reinstalled the update for WMDC
-used software that came with my phone for WMDC
-downloaded it from windows
-contacted hp and microsoft

....but I still cannot resolve this and I have not been able to obtain a
straight answer from Microsoft or HP.

Can someone PLEASE help me? What can I do? I have run out of patience and
solutions. Thank you.

Also, can you email me at (e-mail address removed) since my hotmail account is
inactive.... thanks.

I have the same issue. WMDC worked 11/26/2007, now it does not. I have an
AT&T 8525 with WM 6.0. I tried reloading WMDC, I uninstalled at least 10
times, turned off firewalls, disconnected from internet, unchecked advance
networking and basically have spent 15 hours online doing every imaginable
permeatation of posted fixes including the simple one on the WM site. My
phone is recognized in device manager but that is it. WMDC almost boots but
stops (YES THE PHONE IS ATTACHED), synch center sees phone as guset but will
not let me attach, blue tooth sees phone, links and then does nothing else.
My HTC driver on the device matches the version of WMDC. I have run "check
for updates" no less than 50 times. I have added nothing to my phone since
last synch. I have deleted the partnership on the phone side. PLEASE HELP!

I found this solution and it worked:
1. at "Start Search" Type: cmd (it will go to 'C:\users\username>' do not
change to c:\

2. type: net localgroup Administrators LocalService /add

3. restart PC

Found this on another forum, no problems since.

I think you may need to make sure you have administrator access or log in as
administrator. I have account control turned off in Vista so that may be it.

I have also tried you suggestion and had the same problem as jumping jack, I
retried several times slightly changing spacing, whilst I didn't get access
denied then, I didn't understand the response.
For a silver surfer like me can you clarify the exact spacing,Upper/:ower
casing etc.
I am administarator and user. Thanks

Thank you, LT, this worked for me. I have been struggling with this for a
number of weeks and was considering downgrading to XP. Then I realized that
a number of the programs that I had preinstalled when I purchased my PC would
be lost.

Thank you for FINALLY providing the solution. I have tried MANY!

You are my new best friend!
