In the process of trying to get Windows Mobile Device Center to launch I
discovered that I don't even have it installed on my new laptop installed
with Windows Vista Business. I did a search for the file wmdc.exe and it is
not on my computer. I can't find the link to download the program (not the
driver update that is at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx , I downloaded that
and installed with no error messages only to get no response)

Can anyone help? When I just plug my phone in and have Windows search for
the driver for my RNDIS phone there is an error installing the driver for it.
Something about a Windows Mobile Remote Adapter?

Thanks.

You need to go to the Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center website and
download the application. It does not come preinstalled with Vista. Be
sure when installing the application that you have your mobile device
connected (in it's cradle or via USB).

That's my problem. I can't find it on the Microsft website. When I type in
Windows Mobile Device Center on the Windows website all I get is the
driverupdate page. Is there a link you could give me?

Thanks for your help!

Tonyfig:
That "driverupdate" is all you need.
It is the Program (i.e. WMDC) + drivers in a single package.
Download the version corresponding to your system (32-bit or 64-bit) and
install it following exactly the instructions in
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx
that clearly say:
"To Install the Windows Mobile Device Center on Windows Vista:
Read the system requirements listed below.
Connect your device to your PC.
Download the Windows Mobile Device Center Installer (9 MB) to your PC by
clicking on the download link.
Select Run this program from its current location and click OK.
Follow the instructions on the screen."

Good luck.

That's what I thought too, I have tried it both ways...to run it from it's
original location and also to save it to my desktop and then try to run it.
Both times I click through the Access Control window and allow it to run,
then a window titled "Windows Mobile Device Center Driver Update" opens and
installs without any error messages. That's it.

When I do a search on my computer for wmdc.exe (including non-indexed,
hidden and system files) it's not there??? This is the file I need to run
the app isn't it?

I feel like a dufus!

Tonyfig:
I don't run anything.
I just plug my iPaq 4150 on the USB port and synchronization pops up by
itself after a few seconds, as well as the green round icon of WMDC on the
systray.
One last question...
Did you plug your PocketPC first, before installing the software?
That is very important.
If you didn't do it that way I would suggest going to Control Panel and
uninstall WMDC, then reboot and follow the correct procedure.
