wkdetect shows up as a checked entry in msconfig | startup folder even
after it is unchecked and computer rebooted. even after deleted it from the
registry.
i have word-i seldom use, notepad-i use a lot, and MS Works Calendar. I can
find no where in these programs a place to uncheck a command for checking
for Works updates.

My question: Can wkdetect be deleted permanently without affecting any of
the MS software installed on my computer?

The wkdetect.exe process will check on the internet to see if software
updates are available for MsWorks. If updates are available it is used to
manage the download and install of the updates. It is safe to terminate this
process if you are not experiencing problems with MsWorks. wkdetect.exe is an
application that does NOT appear to be a security risk. The Spy Bot database
currently registers wkdetect.exe to Microsoft.

This is part of Microsoft Works.
