Hi Sueffel,
Thanks for your posting. If I understand correctly, you cannot connect to
your WAP using Windows Wireless Connection Manager, but you can connect to
the WAP using the third-party connection manager. I'd like to refer to this
article first:
313242 How to Troubleshoot Wireless Network Connections in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=313242
1. Check the HCL to determine if there is a Windows XP-compatible driver
that is available for your wireless adapter.
* If there is a compatible driver, install the updated driver before you
perform any of the following troubleshooting procedures.
* If there is not a compatible driver, you may be able to use the network
adapter, but the configuration and functionality may be very limited.
2. Determine if the driver that you are using recognizes the Windows XP
Wireless Zero Configuration service:
1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Network and Internet
Connections.
2. Click Network Connections, right-click Wireless Connection, and then
click Properties.
3. View the available options:
* If you do not see the Wireless Connection icon in the Network Connections
folder, or if you cannot view the properties, there is a problem with the
driver for the wireless network adapter. To troubleshoot this problem, see
the "Driver Installation Issues" section in this article.
* If you can view the properties for the Wireless Connection icon, but you
do not see a Wireless Networks tab, see the "Drivers That Do Not Support
the Wireless Zero Configuration Service" section in this article to
continue troubleshooting.
* If you can view the properties, and you can see and access the Wireless
Networks tab, see the "Drivers That Support the Wireless Zero Configuration
Service" section in this article to continue troubleshooting.

I have a Belkin USB Wireless (802.11b) card, and I've been trying to get it
to work with my WAP. As a side note, my coworker has a Linksys PCMCIA card
and has the same issues.
The problem is, with Windows Wireless manager, I cannot connect to the WAP.
We are using WEP (128 bit) and not broadcasting the SSID. Using Belkins 3rd
party manager, things worked fine until the manager itself went cabloey on
me. But the WEP won't take a passphrase, it must have the HEX chars,
annoying, but cool.
Basically, anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Sueffel
