Wireless Router and Home Network Problem

I see from previous messages that this seems a major problem.

I am trying to network two home computers via a D-Link DI-624 Wireless
router.

The host computer runs XP Home and is connected to the internet via a cable
modem. The guest pc runs XP Pro. The network icons show excellent signal
strength but I cannot share files or internet connection. When I run the
network
setup wizard on the host pc it highlights the LAN connection as ENABLED,
SHARED, FIREWALLED then just before the wizard finishes Shared & Firewalled
disappear. I then have an error message saying the wizard encountered a
problem and could not set up the network.

I'm out of my depth here. Any suggestions?

Greetings derek,

Try running the XP Network Wizard again. If you receive the error give us
the full text and the error you received.

I've tried it and the message I get is....

"Cannot Complete the Network Setup Wizard
An error occurred during configuration of the network on this computer.
You can configure your network manually, or you can run the wizard again
with different settings."

If I understand your setup, you are attempting to use ICS to connect the
guest computer by wire to your host computer ethernet connection, the
host is itself wirelessly connected to the router which is then
connected to the cable modem?

Since the DI-624 has four ethernet ports, you could connect the guest
computer to the router directly, avoiding any need for ICS, the cleanest
solution IMO. For the ICS computer ethernet to computer ethernet, you
do need a crossover cable, not a straight through cable as is used to
connect computer to router.
