I also have a wireless mouse and a keyboard and change the batteries
about every
three months. You either bought a bad batch of batteries or there's a
problem with
your mouse. You'll have to do a little troubleshooting to find out
which is the culprit.

What is the shelf life of the batteries ?

Either you have a defective mouse, or the batteries are expired. (look
to see if there is a expiration date on the package)
