Wireless network needs "repair"

Hi,

I just rebuilt my wife's PC - AMD Duron 1.6 (don't laugh, it was a K6-2
350!), 256 MB PC2100, Win XP/SP2. It all seems to be OK, but everytime I
boot, the wireless network connection needs to be "repaired" before it will
connect. We have a Linksys 4 port router, and wusb11 v2.6 adapters (I
updated the driver and that didn't help).

None of the other PCs have this problem. 1 other PC has SP2, but it's the
one hardwired to the router/cable-modem.

Could it be that the DNS and IP addresses need to be specified? Only one of
the other PCs have them specified - the others are automatic - but I don't
remember why it was set that way, and I'm not swift enough at networking to
know how to setup the addresses.

Thanks for any help!

Hi Carey,

Thanks a lot for the help. Unfortunately resetting the winsock didn't help.
I used the solution you recommended for SP2, and got a message the the
winsock had been reset, but I still have the same problem.

Excellent site by-the-way!! I got some good tips that I will try later for
speeding things up on the network.

Anymore ideas/tips for my "repair" problem? I have tried disabling the SP2
firewall and that didn't help either.

Thanks a lot,
Gary

The tip for SP2 will probably be removed as it seems worthless. I recommend
you download and run the WinSockXP fix...

Did it, and it did the trick!! Thanks so much. You have no idea how hard I
have been searching for a solution to this. I appreciate your help!

Carey,

Well, maybe I spoke to soon. The fix seemed to work - lasted 3-4 boot-ups
and now we're back to the original problem. I tried the winsock fix again
but this time it didn't seem to do anything. Dang! Anymore ideas?

Thanks a lot,
Gary

Uninstall and then reinstall the network card and reinstall the latest
drivers from the manufacturer.

Otherwise, use system restore to go back in time to when it last worked
properly.
