Folks,

Environment Windows XP SP1
Toshiba Satellite P20 with SigmaTel USB - IRDa Infrared
adaptor.

Is there a way to prevent the desktop icon "Send files to
another computer" appearing when an infrared enabled
device is within range?

I can turn of the Taskbar icon through the control panel
but cannot find a way to stop the desktop icon appearing.

regards

Jon

Just disable the infrared when you don't need it.
You can do it in Device Manager but if you have configfree running on
the task bar, you can just leftclick the configfree icon, use the
mouse to scroll up to the SMC IRCC Fast Infrared port line, and select
disable. Do the same but select enable when you need it back.

Thanks for the response. However I want the desktop icon
to not appear during an IR transfer. I believe it would
invite the user to open it and have a play! Also I have
discovered that a menu option is added to the Send To
menu in Windows Explorer when a device is in range.

In essence I need to allow file reception but not sending.

Sorry, misunderstood. Not sure how to stop that, but you could try
putting an IR device into range so the icon comes up in the system
tray (complete with offending pop-up file transfer message) and then
right-clicking on the IR icon, select properties, then untick the
"Allow others to send files to your computer using infrared"
Then the alert box comes up but not the window allowing file
transfers, if you click on the alert box.

Mind you, I'm not sure if that will also stop any of your desired
transfers - I only use mine for a Nokia 6210 mobile phone to sync with
Outlook.
