I have a built home computer. When I try to install the soft ware for a
wireless router the wizard stops the process and says "no modem detected",
also when I try to configure a new internet connection the wizard runs, but
no new ICON shows up after the wizard is finished. The internet controller is
nvidia.

I've set up lots of wireless routers, and none of them require
installing software or creating a new Internet connection. Try this:

1. Connect one of the router's LAN ports to the computer's wired
Ethernet adapter.

2. Run the Network Setup Wizard (Start | All Programs | Accessories |
Communications | Network Setup Wizard). If it detects the router's
shared Internet connection, tell it to use that connection. If it
doesn't, tell the Wizard that the computer connects to the Internet
through a residential gateway (router).

3. Find the router's LAN IP address: right-click the LAN connection,
click Status | Support, and look at the Default Gateway address.

4. Connect to the router's built-in web server by typing its LAN IP
address (for example, 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1) in the address bar
in Internet Explorer.

5. Configure the router to connect to your broadband connection.

What make and model of router do you have?
