I have a network setup in my home using a cable modem then a linksys
wireless router. This works great inside the house but when I take my
laptop into the garage I continer to get a very weak signal and the
connection continues to drop off.
My thought is to add an Intel wireless pro to the linksys router which
has better antennas and the laptop has the pc card from Intel which
should be compatable.
My question is this the correct way to solve the problem or is there
another or better solution.
Thanking you in advance for any help.

Yes, you could probably disable the wireless in the router and add your own
access point if it has more oomph. Or, see whether you can relocate the
router/AP to a location where you get a better signal..... ?

Have you thought about trying homeplug. Latest ones run at 85 Mbps and I've
replaced a few home wireless networks with them. Much more stable, secure
and reliable. Cut down on the number of support calls I get!! They do have
a few draw backs such as you cant plug them into a surge & spike protector
or UPS, they don't work well if they share a socket with the little black
box appliance transformers and if the missus plugs the hoover into the same
socket, connectivity can go a bit haywire but apart from that they work
fine.

Have a look at

working great. Solved all the issues.
