Hello All,

I just purchased a linksys wireless lan card for an older PC with a fresh XP
pro install on it with SP2. When I boot up the hardware wizard does not
automatically find the card. It also will not load when trying a manual
install(came with needed software). The system tells me the information
required is not on the CD. I went to linksys site and downloaded the driver
software and tried again to no avail. The system is an older gateway from
1998 with a 400mhz processor and 128RAM. The OS runs just fine and other
programs I loaded work very well but what am I missing when trying to
install this wireless card? Do I need to flash the BIOS? I'm at a loss.

Thanks In Advance

Hello

Could be that laptop is not compatible and maybe you better
off using a patch cable. I mean flashing the bios may and may
not be the answer but I think it's more of a combatibility issue.
Just use the cable, could just be an issue with the card and your
laptop

Are you certain that XP SP2 has the needed driver? If you inserted the
card and the correct driver was not available in the OS, it is likely
that the card has been enumerated as another device. With the card
inserted, open device manager, view hidden devices, and look for any
warnings (yellow) or error (red) or any device labeled "linksys".
Remove any you find. Remove the card and reboot. Install the correct
driver from the CD, then insert the card the first time.

Make sure you install the drivers and reboot/shutdown, *before* you
insert the card. After XP comes up completely, the hardware wizard will
understand what it is looking for.
