Hello

I am unable to install XP SP2 on my XP Pro machine due to not being able to
connect to the internet after SP2 install. I uninstall SP2 and all is fine,
install it again, nada.

I tried playing with all the settings I could, including restarting the
network, no dice.

I've heard horror stories on SP2 as well. I really don't care for SP2, but
I need it to run VS2005 :(

Thanks for any help.

It would be better for you to determine why you can't get to the
Internet after SP2 than to not install SP2. Unfortunately, you haven't
given us any information about your machine or how you connect to the
Internet so you can't get specific advice.

Here are a few things to check:

1. Upgrade drivers for whatever hardware device is used for the Internet
(ethernet adapter, modem, usb, etc.).

2. Check firewall status. If using a third-party firewall, make sure you
have the latest version and that the Windows Firewall is off.

Mark,

The horror stories that you hear from folks who have gotten their computers
borked by SP2 are a result of improper preparation, or from having software
that's not SP2 compliant. Those are unfortunate.

The fact is that not moving to SP2 will hurt you far worse than moving might.
If you have a problem with SP2, then ask for help with the problem active.
Don't try it, remove it, then whine about it.

Fix the problem. Have you posted here earlier, and been overlooked? If so, my
apologies. Help us to help you.
