Hey,
I have a wireless 802.11b network connection setup
between three computers through a router. 802.11b goes at
11 megabits per second. I am aware that that is the
ultamite maximum the speed can be, but for some reason
mine goes at .625 megabits per second. Just incase I
didn't do the math right, or its any easier for you, it
took 33 minutes to transfer 380 megabytes. Is this speed
normal? It doesn't seem faster than just sending files to
friends through my cable connection...
Thanks!!!

Your actual speed will depend on signal strength and quality (interference
from other 2.4 Gig devices can be an issue), as well using WEP for security.
The higher your security level (64 vs. 128 bit, vs. none) can impact your
tranfer rates as well.

It could also depend on how your wireless adapters are connected
to your PC. If you are using USB 1.1 connections you will be
constrained by the upper speed limit of the USB port which is
nowhere near 11Mbps. If you have USB 2.0 ports in your computer
then you should get much faster transfer rates if your signal
strength is good. The considerations that Doug mentioned below
are also valid.

You are confusing bits and bytes as a start. 8 bits to a byte, plus
some overhead of the TCP/IP packets means maybe 1/9 of the 11 or 1.2 M
Bytes as a second. And the transfer in one direction, with only
acknowledgements going the other way seems to give about half that. So
625 K *bytes* as second seems typical
