I currently have a home wired network. My computers are
currently in the same room. With one computer on the top
floor and one in the basement (two floors down) can a
wireless system work? Short of running a network cable
from upstairs to the basement, what other network type can
i use. I understand that for wired system the signal
strenght can reduce the longer the cable is.

Any idea or suggestion?

Thanks

with cat-5 you are limited to 100 meters. Wireless depends on a lot of
things. Down two floors to the basement maybe a strech for wireless. If you
can just run cat-5, its faster anyway.

I can run a cat-5 but I definitely will need more than
100meters. Is there a "booster" or something similar that
I can use to increase the strenght and 100meters?

Thanks

depends on a lot of

for wireless. If you

From floor-2 to floor-0 is >100m? That must some tall house.

You can stick a switch in the middle, then run a 100m Cat5 cable
from each PC to the switch, using the switch as a signal amplifier.
Or, a router will do, since most have a built-in switch. Or, some
hubs will do, since some so-called hubs are really switches; but,
beware of real hubs, since many will restrict you to HDX and/or
to 10 Mb/s.
