I am wondering how to re-format the hard drive or wipe
the drive. I have re-installed XP and there are still
files on the machine that I need to delete. I am looking
for a way to remove ALL data and files.

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

1. Open your BIOS and set your CD Drive as the first bootable device.
2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition(s), then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

5. Clean Install Windows XP

6. After installing Windows XP, be sure and visit the support website
of the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any
available Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter
and audio drivers.

7. You'll activate Windows XP in the same manner as you did originally,
usually via the internet.

But what can you do if you don't get as far as the setup menu - mine loads
all the drivers, etc., when booting from the cd, the screen momentarily goes
blank and then the bsod appears with the message "The
page-fault-in-unpaged-area error message" and saying that windows has been
stopped to prevent damage.

Open the case and reseat all cable and hardware cards. Pull the ram modules
and replace after gently cleaning the contacts with a pencil eraser. XP is
very sensitive to marginal ram and hardware cabling connections. If you have
a PCI video card, remove the agp card and install the PCI vidio card. This
is all basic troubleshooting procedure. You have a hardware problem or
defective or dirty CD and you will need to do a process of elimination to
find what is causing the setup problem.
Post back with any error messages you get.
