I have a PC that I want to Donate and I want to destroy the data that is on
the Drive.

Is the a DOS based utility that I can run to write all Zeros or something to
the Drive to destroy the Data on it?

Thanks,
Scott<-

Most hard drive manufacturers have a utility that you can download to test
your hard drive. A lot of these have a "write zeroes to drive" option.
They usually are set to only work on one brand of drive only, so you can't
use a different brand's utility.

You can also download things called something like "Eraser", or "Nuke
disk" that create a boot floppy that will do this for you.

Scott,
Did you even TRY searching on your own? Given the terms 'freewar
erase disk', Google displays more than 50 different programs!

He sure did. He tried this newsgroup.

And which one do you trust?

To the OP: download the floppies from your hard drive manufacturer's web
site and use them to write zeros on the disk. It will take hours.
