WinXPpro 64-bit - Compatibility Checker?

Does MS have a date that the full retail version will be available?? No
laughing either. Just curious.

I am ESPECIALLY interested in learning about a "compatibility checker" for
all my hardware components in order to learn if MS has 64-bit drivers
developed for my board and peripherals!!

It is my understanding that I can make the move to WinXPpro 64-bit as long
as I have the 64-bit drivers. Then, 32-bit apps should work with no
problem, right?

Windows XP Professional x64 Edition goes Gold (RTM) on 28 March 2005. The
OEM release will be sometime in April.

In order to install, you need either an AMD64 (much preferred) or Intel
EM64T (much less preferred) processor.

You will need 64 bit drivers for you motherboard, chipset, audio card, video
card, NIC/Modem, etc.
As for peripherals, it really is hit and miss. I don't expect to see 64 bit
support for most "older" hardware.
Drivers are up to the manufacturers to produce.

x64 offers full legacy support, meaning that the 64 bit OS can run both 32-
and 64-bit programs.

One of the best sites for information is www.planetamd64.com. Be sure to
register and visit the downloads section.

There is a newsgroup dedicated to the OS. The server is
privatenews.microsoft.com and the newsgroup is
microsoft.private.windowsserver_64bit (despite it's title it is also for the
x64 edition of Windows XP).

Did you get new dates from Mike?

I have a dual 3.2ghz Xeon (nocona) setup just waiting impatiently for the
x64 version, heh.

AMD would have been my choice but, at the time I built the system, there
were no multi-processor Opteron boards with dual PCIexpress slots for video.
Only built-in (crummy) video on the mobo itself or a legacy PCI slot.
