For some time now, i am not able to update my XP home OS.
The website of the Update goes as far as the message below
and then nothing else happens:

Checking for the latest version of the Windows Update
software...

Depending on your connection speed, this might take a
minute. During this time, you may receive one or more
security warnings. Review each security warning to ensure
that the content is signed by Microsoft, and then click
Install or Yes to install the software.

Who can help me?

If you are using a dial up instead of high speed, this may be the reason.
Another reason may be that a previous update install did not install properly.

I'm having the same problem on two of my three computers. Of the two
having the problem, one is XP home and one is XP Pro.

If the problem is that a previous update did not install properly, how
does one diagnose and fix that? Do I have to start uninstalling one
by one starting with the latest first?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
