WinXp Start Up Proulbems

(well i posted this yesterday but no one responded and i really need some help....

hmm...well lets start at the begining. around last christmas i upgraded my WINME to XP Home and now the majority of the times when i start my computer and looking in the taskbar (after waiting a few minutes (another proulbem im having, my start up takes an unusually long time) alot of icons are missing that should normally be showing. it list them being shown under msconfig but they just dont want to load. can any one help me

Also, as far as slow startup goes, run your msconfig, look in the 'startup' tab to see how many things load up when you start your computer. My guess is a lot. Uncheck the programs you don't need to run at startup, as they can always be started manually when you need them.
