My brother's girlfriend was having problems installing XP and my brother
volunteered me to the job. What happens is that the XP installation process
seems to begin normally, however despite the fact that the standard XP
messages periodically cycle, the installation doesn't progress at all. It
starts with the time in the corner saying that it will take approximately 49
minutes to complete installation, 49 minutes later it still says it will take
49 minutes to complete the installation. I've gone with the failsafe
settings in the BIOS, as well as checking all connectors and even putting the
harddrive in a seperate system to make sure it was still fine (and back up
all personal files). I don't know what else to try. Any suggestions?

Also, I don't have much information about the PC at the momment other than
it is an E-Machine. If additional info would help let me know what you need
and I'll see if I can either get the information from the BIOS or the owner.

Thanks!

I had similar problem with a WinXP installation stall. I removed all
hardware except the bare minimum required to do the installation. The
only thing I had was the video card, mouse, keyboard and one hard drive.
The installation went just fine, then I re-installed all of the
hardware, one item at a time.

Good luck, jimbo
