Windows XP, SP-2 will not allow me to write to HDD, says it if full. But 160
GB drive has many GB avail on all four pratitions.

Partition Magic 8.0 shows all four partitions as they should be. Windows
Exploring sees all partitions correctly also.

Windows CD will not allow a repair of Windows because it says it does not
find any windows OS installed. I've reset the BIOS - but no help.

Please give me some leads to follow. Thanks

How large is the partition in which XP is installed?.. is it just telling
you that there is not enough space on C?:.. are the other three partitions
formatted?.. have you tried copying anything to them to see if they are
functioning?

Thanks for responding, Mike.
C: is 20GB, 12 used, D: is 64, 22 free, E: is 68, 41 free, and F: is 1.5 GB
all free. All partitions are formatted and contain lots of data. I can access
the data and record to a CD-R, and to my Lexar Jump Drive OK.

Can't write to any partitions. But have had no problems for months. Have run
Norton disk Dr. and Win Dr.

I just tried copying to all three and was able to do so with a 22kb file.
This is crazy! I haven't been able to do that for a week.

Where is the page file?

Go to Start, Control Panel, Folder Options,
View, Advanced Settings and verify that the box before "Show hidden
files and folders" is checked and "Hide protected operating system files
" is unchecked. You may need to scroll down to see the second item. You
should also make certain that the box before "Hide extensions for known
file types" is not checked. Next in Windows Explorer make sure View,
Details is selected and then select View, Choose Details and check
before Name, Type, Total Size, and Free Space.

Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp,
More Options, System
Restore and remove all but the latest restore points? Restore points can
be quite large Mine are currently 41 mb, although all except the latest
are compressed to 20 mb on disk. By the way System Restore Points are
hidden files which you will not see even after you have taken the
measures to show hidden files detailed above.

You can limit the disk space used by System Restore. Right click on the
My Computer icon on your Desktop and select, Properties, System Restore,
Settings. This will give you the amount of Disk Space allocated to
System Restore in terms of % of size of Drive and megabytes or
gigabytes. The default maximum is 12%, which is often excessive. You can
move the slider to the left to reduce the size of the allocation. Once
the allocated space is fully taken the oldest restore point is removed
when a new restore point is created ( or it should be ).

Empty your Recycle Bin. You mention using Norton. Do you have a Norton
Protected Recycle Bin. The size of this folder can catch users out. Read
here for more information:
