If you are not already using the classic Windows logon box, at the
Welcome Screen do Ctrl-Alt-Del twice to get the classic logon box. Type
in "Administrator" and whatever password you assigned when you set up
Windows.

If you reset the built-in Administrator account's password in Home or
have Pro and don't remember the password, use NTpasswd to change the
built-in Administrator account's password to a blank.

Then go to the User Accounts applet in Control Panel and set passwords
that you will remember and make other desired changes.

Have you tried safe mode? Hold down F8 as you boot, you should see a
menu. It will ask you for the admin password. That probably hasn't
been set, so leave it blank.

He has Pro. He doesn't need to go into Safe Mode to get to the
Administrator account.

Thanks all,
What I did was changing the admin acct as user name and set the password.
I could not get an admin acct anymore. Admin acct = myuser acct.
Thanks,

If you changed the name of the administrator, then just use NTpasswd to
change the password of whatever that account is. It will show up as one
of the user accounts.

Simply log in using the built-in Administrator account (which
cannot be deleted) and modify the desired account(s) and use Start > Run
"control userpasswords2" to modify the desired account(s). By
design, the only way to log into the Administrator account of WinXP Home
is to reboot into Safe Mode. For WinXP Pro, pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL twice
at the Welcome Screen will produce the standard login dialog box.

Failing that, Linux-based password cracking utilities abound on the
Internet, freely available to anyone who can use Google.
