winxp pro won't shut down

I have winxp pro it has been working great until a week a
go and now it will not shut down.It will not reboot I
have to turn off power on hit the reboot switch on my
tower. Can any one tell me what to do to fix this?
I have 2200 amd cpu 256 meg memory .thanks David
