Hi,

I have a 4 and 10 year old daughters and have upgraded to
Win XP Pro. I have set them up as the restricted user type
instead of administrator. I want to install some childrens
software in their accounts but not the main administrator
account (i'm sick of their programs!). I have tried to
install some packages but they don't work (some "cannot
find registry entry..." error) and i never get prompted
whether I want to install the software for just the
current user or all users when logged into Administrator.

Please help!

How these programs install, and any options is up to the person that put the
installer package together. If you don't want to see their shortcuts, go to
Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs. Locate the
appropriate shortcut, and copy it to their start menu. Then delete the
original. The same applies to Desktop icons, but use Documents and
Settings\All Users\Desktop

As for programs that won't run, a vast majority of these programs were never
intended to run on computer's running NTFS as their file system. NTFS puts
a large number of restrictions on what folders, registry hives and keys that
a user can have "write" access to. Since the program runs under the
"user's" logon credentials, it has the same restrictions.
