I have a workstation with Win XP Pro and 16 laptops also
with Win XP Pro. The workstations acts like a file server
although the network is peer-to-peer. when the first 10
laptops start accesing the shared folders from the
workstation, the remaining 6 report errors, saying that
the maximum number of connections has been reached.

i have looked at the KB and it does specify that the
default number of connections is 10, however, I just
wanted to know if there is a way of increasing this.

Please advise.

Don't believe there is a way to increase this. Hard-coded. To get more
need to move to Microsoft Windows Server or another server operating
system (Linux, Unix, etc.) which will handle larger numbers of connections.

I think the service that checks the number of logins can
be turned off, don't remember the name of the service
right now.

Guess I'll stop thinking it's hard coded, but I think there are license
issues involved ...
