I have tried cleaning out the protected storage subsystem key and recreating
it, but it still doesn't remember - only 1 of 3 PCs do this. Problem is,
when you try to attach to a folder share, you get promted for the username
and password again - for a printer share, you don't get prompted - you have
to remove the printer and add it again, and even though the Remember
password box is checked, it doesn't. There are identical user accounts on
the WinXP Home and W2K server machines, and when prompted, the username and
password combo works. How can I get this pc to remember the username and
password? Right now, I have the user printing directly to the JetDirect card
on the printer, which circimvents any security I might want to enable in the
future.\

Anyone? I am going to be at this client's site this week, and I would like
to have something to tell him other that I don't know!

Well, this is a workgroup environment, and when I changed the user names to
a standard (i..e. jblow) and renamed the users in the User Accounts control
panel applet, that DOES NOT rename the usename that is passed to shares for
credentials! I ran control userpasswords2, clicked on the user in question,
and hit properties, and realized that the usename (which is the name passed
on to shares requesting authentication) was still the original, such as Joe
Blow, and the full name was JBlow. I changed the user name to jblow, and the
full name to Joe Blow, and it all works now - will be converting this
company to AD soon, so was a learning experience
