Alan

after a lot of playing around I got the networking
between my PC. one is XP Home the other Pro. file sharing
is fine at the moment. now I can't seem to get ICS to work
( I need to share my dial up connection ). the host
computer is using XP Home and the client is using XP Pro.

I have a laptop with XP Home and all I need to do is plug
in the network cable and it can use the net just fine.
I've tried emulating the laptop's settings on the XP Pro
machine but that doesn't work. With or with out the
firewall on it still the XP Pro machine can't reach the
net whereas the laptop has perfect access to the internet
with or without the firewall. the only site I know of and
have since checked is http://www.ChicagoTech.net

any help here would be cool. thank you

Alan,

Please describe your network in more detail. How does the internet connect to
the ICS host? Is the ICS host the XP Home or Pro? How are you connecting the
two computers - direct cable (cross-over hopefully) or router?

Remember for ICS to work, you have to have a separate network connection for the
internet input, and for the shared internet output, on the ICS host. And the
ICS client has to use DHCP (obtain settings automatically).

Here are a couple websites with useful tutorials:

And please don't contribute to the spread of email address mining viruses.
Learn to munge your email address properly, to keep yourself a bit safer when
posting to open forums. Protect yourself and the rest of the internet - never
post your address unmunged.
