Can a Millenium machine talk to an xp machine re: remote assistance,
desktop etc.

With Remote Assistance or Remote Desktop, no.

You'll need to get third party software to sort of replicate those features
(check out WinVNC)

You can install Remote Desktop client software on a Millennium machine
and use it to remotely control an XP Pro machine. The software is
available on the Windows XP CD-ROM and from this site:

Whoops... sorry, I read your message the wrong way (thought you meant
Windows XP Remote Desktop'ing or Remote Assistance to Windows ME)

You connect to a non-Windows XP Home sku with Remote Desktop.
