Hi all I’ve had my genuine copy of windows XP for some while now (2yrs +) But
ive just gone to format and my CD is cracked and there is no way I can use
it, I have no idea how its manage to get cracked as its been in a CD folder,
for over a year. Is there anything I can do or is buying a new one the only
thing I can do?

How you deal with this situation depends on what type of
installation CD you have. If it came with your computer, an OEM
version where the CD key is printed on a sticker attached to
the side of the computer, you'll need to contact the
manufacturer to see if you can obtain a replacement. If it's a
retail version which came packaged in a blue or green box you
can try contacting Microsoft. Take a look here for more info:

Good luck

If yours was a retail version, Microsoft will replace it at for a small fee.
Call 800-426-9400 .

But if it was an OEM version, Microsoft won't support it and you're probably
out of luck. However it doesn't hurt to try asking the OEM you bought it
from if they can replace it.

If you bought it, it must be a generic OEM version, rather than one that
came with and is for a specific computer. If you can find a friend who has
the same type (Generic OEM and the same version--Home vs Pro) you have, make
a copy of it. This not really illegal, since it's the Product key that
represents your license, not the CD itself.
