Is it possible to set up WinXP Pro as a web server if you
have an always on cable modem? I would just like a simple
web page to be accessed by anyone that I give the
specific URL to. If it is possible can anyone direct me
to any documantation that will explain how to do it. Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

First of all check with your cable company that they will allow you to do
this. 99.9% of them do not and will terminate your account if you use your
PC as a webserver. Most DSL companies do allow it. XO, Earthlink are two
that I know for sure allow this.

Then take a read through

Yes, it's a LOT to read but understand:

You will be letting people IN to your own PC. It must be a reliable one
because it will be available 24/7. It should really be a PC on which you do
NOT surf, play, do production work... it should be a dedicated webserver...
and as such XP is not the best O/S... it will allow only 10 simultaneous
connections - a connection can be anything from a page to a photo...
anything that is 'linked' to be able to be seen. The 11th (and subsequent)
connection gets thrown off and told to wait...

XP supports only a single website.... for the ability to run unlimited
websites and unlimited connections, you must move to a Server O/S like
Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2003 Server.

The PC should have a very good firewall (preferably hardware firewall) and
antivirus). People WILL try to hack you.
