WinXP and laserjet 4 drivers...a challenge..

I have an issue with WinXP Pro sp1 and HP laserjet 4 drivers. On a netware
network i just removed the print queues an implemented iPrint.

When I remove the old printer from a WinXP workstation, and I install the
laserjet 4 from iPrint, which copies down LJ4 drivers to the workstation, I
cannot print to the printer. Or rather is can, but I get nothing but junk
out, sometimes blank pages, sometimes no text, but I'll always get images
out. A test page prints out only the Windows logo.

The reason I am posting here, if I take a WinXP pro workstation that has
never had a laserjet 4 installed on it, and install one of the "new"
printers, it works flawlessly.

I'm thinking there is something wrong not necessarily with the driver, but
maybe the file copy process. Incedentally, I've tried this with LJ4 drivers
that I've downloaded from HP, the ones built into XP, and ones copied from a
server at another location where iPrint works properly, and I always get the
same result. Previous install of LJ4 on machine, does not work. Clean
install of LJ4 drivers, and it does work.

Is there a way to completely remove the driver, i mean totally remove, not
just deleting the inf file?

Thanks for any help anyone could lend in...

Hi,

If you want to remove the printer and drivers from the machine please see the steps below.

Steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit and click OK.
2. Delete all the contents of the following registry keys:

• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\WindowsNT x86\Drivers\Version-2
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\WindowsNT x86\Drivers\Version-3
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers

3. Check the following registry key for third-party monitors. Remove any non-default monitors:

• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors

ï¶ The default port monitors are:

AppleTalk Printing Devices (When Services for Macintosh is installed)
BJ Language Monitor
Local Port
PJL Language Monitor
Standard TCP/IP Port
USB Monitor
Windows NT Fax Monitor

4. Check the following registry key for third-party print providers. Remove any non-default print providers:

• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Providers

ï¶ The default print providers are:

Internet Print Provider
LanMan Print Provider

5. Delete the printer driver files:

• Delete all drivers from the %SystemRoot%\System32\Spool\Drivers\W32x86 folder.

6. Restart Windows.
7. Re-install the printer drivers.
8. Test to see if you are able to print.
